Parents generally find the Lovevery Play Gym to be a beautifully designed, high-quality, and developmentally beneficial product, but many question its high price compared to cheaper alternatives like the Fisher-Price Kick & Play Piano Gym, with resale value and long-term use being key justifications.

mixed sentiment100% match

While many praise its design, quality, and developmental features, the cost is a significant sticking point. Some feel it's worth it, especially if bought secondhand or planning more kids, while others argue cheaper options are just as good.

Watch Out For

mediumThe mat is large and takes up significant floor space, which may be an issue in smaller homes.
mediumBabies may lose interest faster than with more stimulating (noisy/flashing) gyms; some parents report their baby preferring the Fisher-Price.
lowWhile marketed as all-organic, the product actually contains some polyester, which some parents feel is misleading.
mediumThe wooden arch can be unstable if a baby pulls on it when learning to sit; requires removal around 6-7 months.

Community Q&A

Is the Lovevery Play Gym really worth the $140 price?
It depends on your budget and priorities. Many parents feel it's worth it if you value aesthetics, quality, and resale value, but you can achieve similar developmental benefits with a cheaper gym.
How does the Lovevery compare to the Fisher-Price Kick & Play Piano?
The Fisher-Price is louder, more stimulating with lights and music, and keeps babies engaged longer, but the Lovevery is higher quality, nicer looking, and has a better developmental guide.
How long does the Lovevery Play Gym get used?
Most active use is 0-8 months, though the mat can be used as a play surface beyond that. Some babies lose interest once they start crawling.
Is it good for a Montessori approach?
Many Montessori parents appreciate its wooden, natural materials and minimalist design, but note it includes some plastic parts and is not strictly Montessori.

Compared To

vs Fisher-Price Kick & Play Piano Gym

The Fisher-Price gym is significantly cheaper, arguably more engaging due to lights/music, and keeps babies entertained longer, but the Lovevery is praised for its aesthetic, material quality, and developmental focus. Parents often end up with both or agree the FP is more 'fun' while Lovevery is more 'beautiful'.

vs Skip Hop play gyms

Skip Hop gyms are mentioned as cheaper alternatives that look nicer than Fisher-Price, but lack the Lovevery's reputation for quality and staged development.

  • Whether the Lovevery Play Gym is worth the investment for neurodivergent babies

I'll be honest, as a sturdier option it is really good for a baby who needs something to pull on. My first (undiagnosed but highly likely neurodivergent) got frustrated frequently with the hanging things on play mats seeming 'flimsy' or not holding for him to actually grab the thing. This one handled all of it. It's also great for Montessori-style since so much of it is just simply wooden and cotton based. And the high contrast images (both the mat itself and the cards) really seemed stimulating in the right way for the early months. It's a splurge for a good amount of time not spent in a play gym necessarily, but there is resale value like others have said. We got it as a gift for the holidays but it was open box and heavily discounted. I absolutely wouldn't pay full price but if someone else wants to buy it, I'll take it. Also the tent mode doesn't get talked about enough but is super cute for toddler age.

  • Comparing Lovevery Play Gym and Fisher-Price Piano Mat for engagement and value

My 3 month old is OBSESSED with the Fisher Price kick and play piano. It's the only thing guaranteed to keep him entertained. I got the Lovevery play gym with my first and she liked it fine but it didn't entertain her quite as much...now two kids in, I have both and the Lovevery is more of a backup or we keep it at my moms. I'm debating on returning it honestly. But if you can afford it easily, it's a beautiful product. I just find my kids prefer the lights and music from the fisher price. I agree with everything people said about it being expensive and the lovevery being more developmentally focused. But this is the best tool I've had yet for independent play and the only thing my baby will do for 20+ mins (he will do 10-15 max in the Lovevery). He kicks and kicks and smiles and coos. In the Lovevery he just stares up and looks around mostly.

  • Critique of the Lovevery Play Gym's appeal and value proposition

I think it appeals to a lot of people because 1) it's marketed well as a developmental toy, and 2) it's aesthetically pleasing. Personally I have a Skip Hop play gym that I think is plenty cute and cost $60. The lovevery is $140. I got the fisher price kick and play for $25 as a Christmas gift. I couldn't tell you which one my baby likes best, seems equal. The Lovevery seems like a trend. Cute for Instagram but baby doesn't care.

  • Lovevery Play Gym from a Montessori perspective: durability and development

We use and love ours. Babe is nearly 6 months and uses it daily. He has used it since birth. We do not have other baby containment (no jumper, no swing, no bouncer, no bumbo, no sit me up) because we follow Montessori and want unrestricted movement. He spends his awake time in the Lovevery gym and it holds up. [...] It's so engaging with the different sensory parts. People will claim it's 'not that Montessori' because there are too many toys hanging at once or because it has crinkle paper, but honestly, not everyone can afford to spend $200+ on a single 'Montessori' wooden toy. This gym is a great compromise as it is aesthetically neutral and not overstimulating with lights and music. It still provides that beautiful, natural look that Montessori aims for, and my baby absolutely loves to kick the crinkle paper and pull on the toys. High-contrast cards are fantastic. We also enjoy making a tent with it. It's a worthwhile investment for us.

  • Value proposition and longevity of the Lovevery Play Gym considering resale

I love it, but my baby only used it until he was mobile and wanted to crawl/explore around 6.5 months. My two year old likes the tent feature now though. With the resell value I think it was worth it, ours was a gift though. I feel like if you can swing it, it's a great product. [...] I bought ours on FB marketplace for $50 and it was in perfect condition. Honestly would never pay full price for it, but for $50 it felt like a steal and we've used it daily. It is beautiful, and you can remove the dangling bits to make it more Montessori-like if you want. At full price, with the amount of time they actually spend in it, I think it's hard to justify. But if you buy used and sell it again at the same price, it's a great deal.

  • Lovevery Play Gym as the only aesthetically acceptable option for a 'granola' parent

I swore up and down I wouldn't spend that money on a play gym, and then I spent hours upon hours researching and felt like I had no other choice because I want something 'crunchyish' and not an eyesore. It's basically the only play gym that fits that. I got mine gently used on FB marketplace for $90. Honestly I do love it and so does my baby. [...] I have the Lovevery and I love the look and quality. After 2 kids and 3 years, it's faded a bit from the sun but otherwise looks great. It doesn't wrinkle from being washed, which is nice. Keep in mind the mat isn't padded - it's just a playmat, not a rug for falls. But it is huge and takes up a lot of floor space.
