New RideSafer Travel Vest Gen 5 - Small (Blue)
The RideSafer Travel Vest Gen 5 (Small) is a wearable, ultra-portable child restraint system designed as an alternative to booster seats for travel, carpooling, and ride-sharing. It meets FMVSS 213 safety standards and uses the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt to secure the child, with or without a top tether. Recommended for children 3 years and older weighing 30–60 lbs, it is compact enough to fit in a backpack but is best suited for occasional use rather than daily driving due to reduced side impact protection.

Safety equivalence debate of RideSafer vest vs. forward-facing car seat
I see a lot of people are using the RideSafer vest for travel. It looks really convenient, but is it equivalently safe to a forward-facing car seat? [...] No, they’re not equivalently safe. Physics says that a five-point harness is safer than a three-point harness because it distributes crash forces better across the bony parts of the body. But the RideSafer does meet or exceed all applicable US safety standards (FMVSS 213) so it is safe to use, just not at the same level as a five-point harness seat.

Travel experience with 3-year-old using RideSafer vest
We used it last year with our then 3.5 year old on a trip and it worked great. He was comfortable enough and it was so easy to just throw in a backpack. I wouldn't use it as my daily driver bc I think a traditional car seat is safer, but for travel it's amazing. One downside is that if they fall asleep, they tend to slump since there's no side support.

Packing and usability for one-bag travel with kids
I just took it on a trip to Europe and it was perfect for my 5yo. Fits in my carry-on, quick to set up in a taxi. I love that I didn't need to lug a car seat. The only issue was getting the belt guides right the first few times; there's a learning curve. But once you get it, it's fast. It's way smaller than our WayB Pico.

Feedback on ride safe vest for toddlers including sizing and comparison
We have one and use it for my 4-year-old. I find it really convenient for travel and carpools. It's not perfect—my kid sometimes complains it's uncomfortable—but it's a lifesaver when you don't want to haul a bulky seat. I tried a BubbleBum and it was terrible for belt fit; this is much better. Check the sizing carefully; we got the small and it fits well now, but it says 3+ and there's no way a 3-year-old fits properly.

Uber driver and parent perspectives on using RideSafer vest
As an Uber driver, I've seen a few parents use these. They seem to set up quickly and the kids look secure. One parent told me it's a game-changer for getting around the city without a car. From my side, it doesn't damage the seats and doesn't take extra time. I'd rather see a kid in one of these than in just a seatbelt or nothing.

General experiences with Ride Safer vest for toddlers on trips
We've used ours for two years now—from age 4 to 6. It's held up great. We use it for cabs, Ubers, and when grandparents pick him up. I just keep it in the trunk. It's definitely not the same as a full car seat but for occasional use it's a perfect solution. The Gen 5 seems to fit a bit better than the older version we borrowed once.
