Watch Out For
Community Q&A
- Is the Diaper Genie Platinum worth the cost?
- It depends on your budget and odor sensitivity; some find the stainless steel and foot pedal justify the price, while others think a cheaper pail or Ubbi is a better value.
- Does the Platinum control odors better than the plastic version?
- The metal body may help with odor absorption over time, but some users still report smells once the baby is on solids, and the clamp system is key.
- Can I use off-brand refills with the Platinum?
- The Platinum uses a new Easy Roll refill system, so compatibility with off-brand or older Genie refills may be limited; check product specifications.
Compared To
vs Ubbi diaper pail
The Ubbi is often preferred for its ability to use standard kitchen bags and its steel construction at a similar price point, though some note the Diaper Genie Platinum's foot pedal is more convenient.
vs Regular trash can with frequent emptying
Many parents find a simple pedal trash can cheaper and equally effective if emptied daily, especially after the baby starts solids when odors become stronger.

Comparison of Diaper Genie models and value for money
I have the platinum and I love it. It’s metal and looks nice. BUT I will say the bag refills are $9.99 each and I could probably go through 1-2 a month (8 week old). That adds up. If I could do it again, I’d probably get the Ubbi pail.

Preference for Ubbi over Diaper Genie Platinum due to bag compatibility
I got the Ubbi for this exact reason. The Diaper Genie Platinum looks nice but the bag refills are expensive and you are locked into their system. Ubbi takes regular tall kitchen bags and is still steel. The foot pedal on the Genie is nice though.

Skepticism about odor control with solids and comparison to Ubbi
I have the Diaper Genie platinum. It’s fine now with newborn diapers, but I’m worried about when he starts solids. I’ve heard the Ubbi is better at that point. The clamp is supposed to help but I’m not fully convinced.

Positive experience with Platinum's hands-free operation
I got the Diaper Genie Platinum at my baby shower and love it. The foot pedal means I don't have to touch the pail with dirty hands, and the soft close lid is great for not waking the baby. It looks really nice in the nursery too.

Concerns about refill cost and alternative methods
We used a Diaper Genie platinum for a few months. It worked well at first but the refills got expensive and we still ended up taking the diapers out to the outside bin because of the smell. Then we switched to a regular trash can with a lid and it was just as good.
