Ride Safer Travel Vest Gen 5 (X-Small / Black)
The Ride Safer Travel Vest Gen 5 (X-Small/Black) is a portable child restraint system that uses a vehicle's lap and shoulder belt to secure the child, designed as a travel alternative to traditional car seats. It is suitable for children ages 3 years and older weighing 30-60 lbs (per manufacturer guidelines), meets FMVSS 213 safety standards, and is legal in all 50 states for use in taxis, Ubers, rental cars, and carpools. This gently used X-Small vest is missing the accessory bag, crotch strap, and instruction manual; note that proper fit requires child maturity and the vest offers no side impact protection, and it is not approved for airplane use.

I appreciated the detailed description
I appreciated the detailed description, I knew I was getting a floor model and it came in perfect shape at a much reduced cost. When I thought the cupholders weren't included, I reached out to them and then we found them and they were very responsive and thankful that I let them know. Everything is fine.
Great for parents
Shopping for gear doesn’t have to break the bank.
Bouncer worked fine

Looks like new
Couldn’t believe how good the condition was.
Great, trustworthy experience
Great deals, easy checkout with lots of payment options, shipped very quickly, and everything was packed well and looked exactly as it was described! I didn't end up needing any intervention with my shipping experience but appreciate the option to cover lost packages for a minimal fee, especially as we get into the late and lost package holiday season. I'll definitely be getting more of my baby gear from Kidsy.

Kidsy Customer Service Review
Kidsy had a great selection of deeply discounted baby gates. Unfortunately, there was a piece missing when I received my package. I didn't realize it until after the 14 day return/exchange window. But I reached out, and they were willing to send me the piece anyway at no extra charge. I really appreciated the customer service.

Better than expected
Everything came packaged well, looked brand new. Super impressed.
Quick response
Ordered a gate prior to this one, UPS lost it on route. I reached out to Kidsy via email and they secured a refund from UPS. Was hesitant to order again, but I couldn't find the gate at a more reasonable price. 2nd order arrived with no issues. Gate is sturdy and the dog (Husky) hasn't gotten through it (he's an escape artist). Quick delivery from start to finish.

Reddit Insights
6 threads · r/ScienceBasedParenting, r/toddlertips, r/Parenting, r/toddlers, r/CPST, r/uberReddit considers the RideSafer Travel Vest a convenient and portable travel solution that, when used correctly, can be safe, but many parents and child passenger safety technicians caution that it lacks side impact protection, can be difficult to fit on small children, and requires a level of maturity akin to a booster seat.
The product is valued for its portability and convenience for travel, but there are significant concerns about its ease of proper fit, suitability for younger children, and lack of side impact protection.
Themes
Use Cases
- Travel (taxis, Ubers, rental cars)
- Lightweight alternative for families without a car
- Backup or occasional use for carpooling
Watch Out For
Community Q&A
- Is the RideSafer vest safe for a 3-year-old?
- It is legally approved but many CPSTs and parents recommend using a traditional car seat until the child is older and more mature, due to fit and maturity requirements.
- Can it be used on an airplane?
- No, it is not approved for airplane use; use a CARES harness or a car seat on the plane instead.
- Will Uber/Lyft drivers accept the vest?
- Most drivers accept it, but some may be skeptical; carrying documentation showing it meets safety standards can help.
- How does it compare to a regular car seat for everyday use?
- It is less convenient for daily installation and may not provide the same level of side impact protection; it's best suited for travel or occasional use.
Compared To
vs Traditional forward-facing car seats
The vest is more portable and convenient for travel, but car seats offer better side impact protection and ease of proper fit, especially for younger children.
vs High-back boosters
The vest functions like a wearable booster, but some users consider it safer than some boosters due to its crash test performance; however, children must be mature enough to sit properly.
vs CARES harness
CARES is used on airplanes, while the RideSafer vest is for vehicles; they are often combined for travel to avoid carrying a car seat.
vs Wayb Pico car seat
The Pico is a compact, lightweight car seat that is safer but more expensive; the vest is more portable but may have fit issues.
Source Threads
CPST explains safety and limitations of RideSafer Travel Vest
CPST here, a Ride Safer Travel Vest (RSTV) is equally safe when used correctly. They pass the same safety tests. That last part is the kicker. (1) They’re not as easy to adjust as traditional harnessed seats, there is a learning curve. (2) They’re not as restrictive as traditional harnessed seats, it is possible to wiggle out of position. This is why they’re often recommended as “wearable boosters” … because much like a booster a child has to be mature enough to sit properly. The sizing does go down to a very small size, the manufacturer only recommends those for taxi rides etc when a caregiver will sit next to the child.

User shares travel system combining CARES harness and RideSafer vest
We have developed an awesome and convenient travel system with this. We use the CARES harness on the plane (FAA approved) and the Ride Safer vest in Ubers while traveling. It all packs down into a backpack pocket and is so so SO much better than traveling with a car seat. The Ride Safer is very convenient to use in quickly getting into and out of vehicles. It's super easy to carry around with you. But it isn't as comfortable as a traditional carseat. My son tolerates it but prefers a car seat when one is available.

Car seat tech warns against use for 3-year-old
I’m a car seat tech. How big is your 3 year old? Age isn’t the only factor that should be considered - size (height and weight) should seriously be considered. Are you rear facing or forward facing normally? I have a 3 year old and I would never put him in this. Personally, I will be using traditional seats until they’re ready for a booster. I’ve worked numerous vehicle wrecks with children/car seats (and lack of car seats) as a firefighter as well, so I’m a lot more cautious than the average person.

User points out lack of impact protection and fit challenges
It doesn’t offer any impact protection, which would be a concern for me, and if your child isn’t large enough to sit correctly in the seat I fail to see how this would be wise (boosters and car seat fit is not just about the straps, it’s also about making sure that the child is against the seat and the seat meets the leg correctly). It appears it would be VERY hard to get a safe fit on many kids (especially the younger/smaller ones).

CPST advises on shoulder belt fit and plane restrictions
Did you have the shoulder belt through the guide at the shoulder? That should keep it off of her chin. You can’t use it on a plane. If she’s under 40 pounds she’d need a harnessed seat on board.

Uber driver advises on documentation to ease acceptance
Some drivers don't care. Others will insist on a car seat/booster if there's any doubt if the child is old/big enough. I suggest printing out and keeping with you any documentation that shows that the harness meets the standards. I had some riders attempt to use some sort of harness for their small child. They insisted that it met the standards. When I asked for proof. The only thing they could show me was the website they bought it from. Spoiler, it didn't mention anything about being an adequate substitute for a booster seat. They didn't get a ride.
