Is Safety 1st a good budget car seat option?
It's a fine budget rear-facing only infant seat. Of course it will not have the features or ease-of-use as a model 2-4x the cost. For under $100, it is very competitive. Evenflo Litemax and Graco SnugRide 35 Lite are other reasonable models in this price range.

Positive and negative experiences with Safety 1st car seats
We have a Safety First one for our toddler and he likes it. We mainly got it because it was one of the less expensive options but I have no complaints. Honestly a car seat is a car seat, it all passes the same safety tests.

Installation difficulty and recline angle issues
The onBoard 35 SecureTech is somewhat unique because it has just one recline angle indicator... I found that when installing the seat and using the base, this line was in the correct position. However…when installing the seat without the base, the angle changed pretty significantly. ...We just cannot recommend installing this seat without the base. However, installing this seat with the base was almost carefree, it was so easy!

Concerns about car seat safety and recall claims
This is NOT a safe car seat. I have used many infant car seats and I cannot belive this one is on the shelf in stores being sold! THIS CAR SEAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. IT IS NOT SAFE!!
