Regalo gate width adjustment issues
Because of the base moulding on my wall, the gate would not fit. With the extension it was too wide, without the extension pieces the adjusters were too extended and would buckle out on pressure. The opening I am trying to fit is 34 1/2 inches, not a crazy size!

Safety concerns with top-of-stairs use
I used the Regalo gate at the top of my stairs and it was fine, but you need to be careful because the 2" gap between bars can be a hazard if a child climbs. Also, the step-over bar is a trip hazard. For the price, it's good, but I'd recommend the North States gate for top of stairs if you can afford it.
