This requires extra sucking in a certain way. I think it would be great to help teach a child how to drink from a regular cup; but it is a big difference if they already know. So this cup is leakproof in terms of if you hold it upside down it doesn't leak. But if your child tosses it even with low strength; water comes splashing out every time which makes a huge mess.\n In terms of cleaning; it is easy to clean. You do need to pop the top out with only three parts it does go in the dishwasher which is nice. It is made of plastic. My preference is less plastic so a lot of them have water bottles I have are metal but plastic is nice for on the go because it is lighter and also easier for a child to carry.
