New RideSafer Gen 5 Extra Small Portable Car Seat (XS - Blue)
The RideSafer Gen 5 Extra Small (XS) is a vest-type child restraint system designed for toddlers weighing 26.5–40 lb and measuring 30–45 in tall. It uses the vehicle's existing seat belt (lap and shoulder belt or lap belt with top tether) to secure the child, and is certified to FMVSS 213 for motor vehicle use but not FAA approved for aircraft. The vest is compact, ultra-lightweight, and portable, making it suitable for travel, taxis, and fitting multiple children in a row, though it lacks side impact protection and some users report fit challenges for younger/smaller children. Note: This open-box unit is missing the crotch strap and instruction manual.

Concerns about safety equivalence to forward-facing car seats
I've seen some websites saying they are as safe as a forward facing car seat... is that actually true? From what I've seen, I'm skeptical. It seems like there is no side impact protection and it probably has more forward excursion compared to a harnessed seat... I think it's a good option for travel where bringing a big carseat isn't ideal, but I wouldn't use it every day.

Trying out the XS vest in NYC and fit issues
The XS is definitely smaller than the small. My 2.5 year old is 25 lbs and 34 inches, and it fits okay but not great... I can't imagine using it regularly for a kid under 3. For occasional taxi rides in the city though, it's better than nothing... I'll use the tether when I can.

Travel with 3-year-old using RideSafer vest
We got the RideSafer vest for our 3 year old for a trip to Hawaii... It was super easy to pack and install in the rental car. He did fine with it, but we still used his regular car seat for the flight... I wouldn't use it as a daily seat, but for travel it's a lifesaver.

Toddler slouching and discomfort in the vest
My 2 year old hates it and keeps trying to slump down... I've tried crossing his legs but he eventually gets uncomfortable and whines. I wanted to love it for quick trips but it's been a struggle. Maybe when he's older.

One-bag travel with RideSafer vest for light packing
Brought the RideSafer vest for my 4 year old on a trip to Europe... We used it in Ubers and a rental car. So much better than lugging a car seat. I used a letter from the manufacturer explaining its US certification and had no issues.
