I have two Safety 1st Easy Install gates and the locking mechanism on both broke within a year. They’re easy to install but the plastic parts just don’t hold up. I replaced them with the Regalo Easy Step Walk Thru gates – half the price and work just as well.

Pressure-mounted gates unsafe for top of stairs, need hardware mount
Don’t use a pressure-mounted gate like the Safety 1st at the top of the stairs. The bar at the bottom is a tripping hazard for adults and the gate can be pushed out by a determined toddler. You want something that screws into the wall. We have the KidCo Angle Mount gate and it’s solid.
