RideSafer Gen 5 Extra Small Portable Car Seat (XS - Blue)
The RideSafer Gen 5 Extra Small Portable Car Seat is a vest-type child restraint system designed for children approximately 2 years and older, weighing 26.5–40 lb and measuring 30–45 in tall. It uses the vehicle's adult seat belt to secure the child, meeting FMVSS 213 standards for motor vehicle use, but it is not FAA-approved for aircraft. This ultra-lightweight and compact vest is ideal for travel, ridesharing, and fitting three children across a vehicle row; however, it requires the child to sit upright without slouching and is generally recommended by CPSTs for children aged 4–5 and up for optimal safety.

Discussion on safety equivalence of RideSafer vest vs. forward-facing car seat
I would not use this vest for a child that young [2.5-3.5 years]. The reason being that they are not mature enough to sit properly and not mess with the seatbelt. Many car seat technicians will not recommend this vest until 4-5 years old for that reason.

CPST parent testing RideSafer vest XS on a 2.5-year-old in NYC
He’s 2.5, 27 lbs, 34 inches. The vest fits fine but I can’t get past the lack of side impact protection and his tendency to wiggle/slouch. I want to love it for taxis but I just can’t use it for him yet.

Parent seeking travel options for 3-year-old; RideSafer vest recommended
We use the RideSafer vest for travel and it’s great. I’ve used it for my 4 and 6 year old but I would not use it for a 3 year old. It’s safe when used correctly but they really need to sit still and not mess with the belt.

Toddler parent inquires about RideSafe vest for 2.5-year-old
I got one for my 2.5 year old (28 lbs) for an upcoming trip. We practiced at home first. She did great! But I would be nervous if she was a car seat escape artist. It’s definitely not as safe as a 5-point harness but safer than nothing in a taxi.

One-bag traveler reviews RideSafer vest for solo parent travel
I’ve used the RideSafer vest for my 5-year-old on multiple trips. It’s a game changer for solo parent travel—lightweight, easy to pack, and quick to install. Not having to lug a car seat through the airport is amazing.
