This gate is perfect!!! It's safe and sturdy, very easy one person install. Keeps our little one safe :) Definitely recommend ... The downside is the gate swings both ways at the top of the stairs and if you let it hang over the stairs the velcro starts to loosen a little. ... the way to open it is not really the easiest way invented, you have to lift it up, so although you can open it one handed, sometimes it's a little harder to shut 1 handed. ... The gate itself is secure and would keep a child from falling down. It attached well to the uneven and awkward bannister but the latch was difficult to use especially when holding a child, navigating a dog or having a guest attempt to open it. ... the instructions/illustrations are very poor and disorganized ... the screws they provided are SO poor two broke while screwing into the wood.

If you're really concerned about the top of the stairs, get the Cardinal Gates Stairway Special. It's rock solid. I have regalo at the bottom of stairs and in doorways. ... I honestly don't think the regalo is hard to install. The instructions are mediocre but if you watch a youtube video it helps.
