The spout is truly spill-free. My baby and I shook the cup upside down and nothing came out! The spout only requires a little sucking or pressure down on the spout for the liquid to come out. This is the reason I would recommend this as a beginner cup; because there is virtually no learning curve to use. The silicone spout is removable and very easy to clean. I pop the spout off and clean it in a microwave sterilization bag. However, it can be cleaned with just soap and water. There is no place any dirt or mold could build up over time. The sippy cup comes with a snap-on cap for traveling which is perfect for on the go and keeping the spout clean.
