Safety 1st Vintage Wood Baby Gate. It's pressure mounted, looks nice, and has a one hand open/close (lift and swing). The locking part can be a little stiff at first but it breaks in. We have ours at the bottom of the stairs and it's held up to a 20lb toddler and a 50lb dog so far. The only downside is that the wood does splinter if you're not careful. We had a Summer Infant pressure mount gate that had a slide and lift lock that would constantly smash your fingers, so this was a huge upgrade for us.

We have the Safety 1st SecureTech Flat Step Stair Gate at the top of our stairs. It's hardware mounted, very sturdy, and has a one-hand release. Not the Vintage Wood model, but a solid option if you need a top-of-stairs gate.

We've been using the Safety 1st Vintage Wood gate at the bottom of our stairs and between rooms. It looks way better than metal gates and blends with our decor. The pressure mount is easy to install, but you have to make sure it's really tight or it will shift. I wouldn't trust it at the top of the stairs though—definitely use a hardware-mounted gate there.
