SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack Medium (Heathered Oatmeal)
The SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack is a wearable blanket designed to help babies transition from traditional swaddling. It features half-length sleeves with foldover mitten cuffs that can be worn open or closed, allowing partial suppression of the startle reflex while enabling arm movement for safe rolling. Made from soft, breathable 100% cotton (0.7 TOG) with a two-way zipper, it supports hip-healthy positioning and easy diaper changes. Suitable for babies who prefer arms-up sleep or are beginning to roll, typically around 3-4 months. Available in medium size; note that some parents report sizing runs snug, so consider measuring your baby before ordering.

Personal experience with the Transitional Swaddle Sack for a 3.5 month old
We just started using the SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack in heathered oatmeal for our 3.5 month old who started rolling. It’s been a lifesaver! The half-sleeves with the mitten cuffs closed really help with her startle reflex, and I feel safer knowing she can push up if she rolls onto her tummy. She sleeps better than in the traditional swaddle already.
Comparison of transition swaddles, including SwaddleDesigns
We tried a few transition swaddles for our 4-month-old. The SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack (medium, heathered oatmeal was the color we got) worked the best. The Zipadee-Zip was too much like a flying squirrel for her, and the Halo Easy Transition sack didn't suppress the startle enough. With SwaddleDesigns, the open/closed cuffs gave us flexibility. We started with both closed and then opened one hand for self-soothing. She slept through the night in it!
Recommendation for a strong startle reflex
My 3-month-old has a strong Moro reflex and started rolling. The SwaddleDesigns sack (we got heathered oatmeal medium) was the best! The half-sleeves keep his arms contained enough to prevent startles but still let him push up. Way better than going cold turkey to a sleep sack.
Transition swaddle for a thumb-sucker
We have the SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack in oatmeal. It's great because you can open the cuffs for thumb-sucking. My son loves sucking his fingers, so we opened one cuff after a few nights. He sleeps so much better now. Only issue is it runs a bit small; we sized up to medium at 14 lbs and it's snug.
Safety discussion on transitional swaddles
I was worried about safety with transitional swaddles. After researching, the SwaddleDesigns one seemed safest because of the arm mobility. We got the heathered oatmeal medium for our 4-month-old. She can push up when she rolls, which gives me peace of mind. The hip-healthy design is a bonus.
Success with SwaddleDesigns for a strong Moro reflex
Hands down the SwaddleDesigns Transitional Swaddle Sack in heathered oatmeal was the only one that worked for our baby who had a strong startle reflex even at 4 months. We used the medium size. It gave her just enough restriction to feel secure but she could still move. Highly recommend!
