The Baby Trend Retreat Nursery Center is generally well-liked for its affordability and feature set, but frequent complaints about a thin, hard mattress pad, awkward folding, and poor instructions slightly dampen enthusiasm.

Many users appreciate the value, removable bassinet, and storage features, giving positive scores. However, consistent negative feedback about the mattress comfort and folding difficulty brings the overall sentiment to slightly positive on balance.

Watch Out For

highThe mattress pad is very thin and hard, often described as a board with a thin cover, causing babies to wake frequently.
mediumThe playard base is only rated for one child after bassinet stage, so twins must be separated earlier than expected.
lowThe changing table cannot be used when both bassinets are attached on the twins model, limiting functionality.

Community Q&A

Is the included mattress pad comfortable enough for overnight sleep?
Most find it too thin and hard; many add a quilted sheet or aftermarket mattress topper, though not officially recommended.
How difficult is it to fold and unfold?
It can be frustrating until you get the hang of the locking mechanism; watching YouTube tutorials helps.

Compared To

vs Graco Pack 'n Play

Graco is often seen as slightly more expensive but easier to fold and with better mattress, while Baby Trend offers more accessories for the price.

vs Joovy Room2

Joovy is preferred for a larger, more durable playard that supports twins longer, but Baby Trend is cheaper and includes bassinets.

  • User feedback on assembly, folding, and twin use

We got the twins nursery center for our twins due in October. Setup took about an hour with clear instructions, but folding it back up was a nightmare. The buttons to collapse the sides require Hulk strength and the floor doesn't seem to fold evenly. I'll probably never fold it again. For twins, it'll work fine until they outgrow the bassinets, then we'll need separate cribs or a Joovy.

  • Brand perception and value for twins

Baby Trend is a budget-friendly brand. I have their jogging stroller and the Retreat Twins nursery center. It's not as polished as Graco or Chicco, but the features you get for the price are unbeatable. For twins, having two removable bassinets that become rockers was a lifesaver during the newborn stage. It's held up fine for 6 months, but the fabric isn't as plush as higher-end brands.

  • Pack 'n Play experiences with mattress and folding

We used the Baby Trend pack n play (the Retreat model) for our daughter until she was 2. Folding it is a pain - you really have to push the side release buttons hard while lifting the center. The mattress that comes with it is awful; it's basically a piece of cardboard with a thin pad. We bought a separate mattress on Amazon and it made a huge difference. Not technically safe per AAP guidelines, but she slept so much better.

  • Twin playard comparison with Joovy

We started with the Baby Trend Retreat Twins because of the double bassinets. It was great for the first 2-3 months, but the bassinets are only rated to 15 lbs, and our twins hit that quick. Also, you can't use the changing table with both bassinets on. We switched to the Joovy Room2 with the twin nursery insert and it's been much better for naps/playtime. Joovy feels sturdier and is rated for twins up to 30 lbs each.

  • Mattress pad solutions for bassinet

The bassinet mattress pad that comes with the Baby Trend Retreat is not removable and feels like a rock. My baby would wake up every hour. I couldn't find a perfectly fitting mattress protector, so I ended up using a quilted bassinet sheet and placing a thin muslin swaddle over the pad. It improved comfort slightly but I wish they made a washable option.

  • Using pack n play bassinet from birth

We're planning to use the Baby Trend Retreat Nursery Center as our primary bassinet in our room for the first few months. It has a removable rocker bassinet which is nice for moving around the house. Assembly was straightforward, but the instructions could be clearer. The mattress pad is on the firmer side, which is safe for sleep, but I added a soft bassinet sheet to make it slightly more cozy. For the price ($200 range), it's a good deal.
