Not if used in moderation (15-20 min at a time, less than 2 hours daily) and only when baby has good head control. It does not teach sitting.
At what age can I use the Sit-Me-Up?
When baby can hold head up unassisted, usually around 3-4 months, until they can sit independently.
Does it come with a tray?
Some versions include a snack tray; others have attached toys only.

Fits chunky babies better, but bulkier and less portable. Bumbo has a tray but leg holes are too tight.

vs Upseat

Upseat is more expensive but recommended by PTs for better posture; FP is cheaper and widely available.

  • Developmental concerns and usage guidelines

Honestly I like it for a safe place to put baby while I’m showering. [...] I also use it in the kitchen while I cook. I’ve seen it recommended that you don’t leave baby in it for more than 15-20 minutes at a time and no more than two total hours in a day. It’s good to not have him in it too long... I feel fine using it within the limits. Also a good general rule is that babies should only be in containers when they’re awake for 15-20 mins at a time, max 2 hours a day, and not to be used as a replacement for floor time/tummy time.

  • Using for a baby who hates tummy time

Our 4 month old hates tummy time with a passion. We got the fisher price sit me up chair and it’s been amazing. He loves being upright and can play for up to 20 mins at a time while I cook or clean. We make sure to still do tummy time often but this has been a great option for all of us. I think as long as you limit use it’s ok.

  • Popular registry item with tray for snacks

I got this as a gift and used it with my first and now my second and it’s great! Both my kids were huge babies, chunky thighs and all. The leg holes are pretty roomy and the seat is wide. When they get older you can attach the snack tray and put puffs or toys on it. I keep it in the bathroom to plop them in while I get dressed.

  • Comparison to Bumbo and Upseat

I had the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up for my first and loved it. I also bought the Bumbo but had to return it because her thighs were too chunky. The FP is way roomier. The Upseat is great but it’s expensive and I’m not sure it’s worth the extra cost if you’re just using it occasionally. The FP folds flat which is nice for storage. I’d go with the FP if you’re on a budget.

  • Pediatric PT advice and safety tips

I asked our PT about it. She said it’s fine in small doses but not to rely on it. She said it’s basically a container and doesn’t help them learn to sit any faster. She actually said the best thing is just floor time. But she said if I need to, 15 mins here and there is fine as long as baby has good head control.
