We have three of the Summer Infant hands-free gates. They're great when carrying laundry or a baby. One broke after a year though – the pedal mechanism just stopped working. The other two have been fine for three years. I'd still recommend them but maybe get an extra.

Recommendation for Regalo gate over Summer Infant for durability
I went through two Summer Infant gates (the step-to-open ones) and both broke within months. The pedal snapped on one, the latch on the other. Switched to Regalo Easy Step and haven't had issues. Much sturdier.
