Variety packs from Amazon
I bought a big kit of Gamakatsu hooks on Amazon and they seem fine. I use the octopus ones for walleye rigs. But honestly, I can't tell a huge difference between these and the cheap Eagle Claw hooks I used before. Maybe the Gamakatsus are a bit sharper, but I don't know if it's worth the extra cost for the amount I fish.

Hook size differences across brands
Gamakatsu sizes seem consistent to me, but I've noticed Owner hooks run smaller. For walleye, I stick with Gamakatsu size 2 or 4 octopus, especially the red or fluorescent ones. They work great on Erie.

Budget hook options
If you want a budget option, Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp is hard to beat. I've caught just as many walleye on those as on Gamakatsu. But if I'm fishing a tournament, I'll use Gamakatsu for the confidence. The fluorescent colors on the Gamakatsu walleye pack are nice for stained water.
