At first I wasn't a huge fan of the shoulder strap covers BUT it has grown on me, the clasp overlaps the shoulder straps perfectly ensuring my child is safe and snug, additionally, the harness has a no-twist feature which has come in handy! GAME CHANGER!!  With our first it was so frustrating not having a shade when we transitioned her from an infant to convertible car seat. It is adjustable up and down so as you need to adjust the seat, you can also adjust the shade. Additionally, there are extra flaps in the front that you can let out or leave in for added protection.\n\nAnother major pro is that this can be used as a booster seat for children meeting the age/weight requirements, meaning it utilizes the cars regular seatbelt versus the internal harness.  To me, this feels more safe for my 4 year old than a standard high back booster seat because there seems to be more side impact protection.\n\nIt’s lightweight - our old car seats are so heavy but this one is actually really lightweight comparatively and even light enough for me to pick up with one hand.\n\nSome other features I love are the strap pads because they have grips that help them stay up. Additionally I love that any lever that is used to adjust the seat is bright blue. This is super helpful when getting the seat fit right.\n\nCONS:\n\nI have used car seats that were way easier to install and easier to switch between rear and forward facing. While those others are specifically marketed to be easier to install, this Baby Trend is consistent with your standard car seat. So if you’re used to a regular car seat installation, this model would be no different; for me, we swap out car seats enough for it to actually matter that it’s super easy and fast to install.\n\nThe chest clasp is kind of difficult to open.  It’s possible that’s by design but I found it challenging to open which can be frustrating over time.\n\nWhile the shade is a major feature to this, I don’t think you can remove it from the seat all together. I am a CPST (car seat technician) and looking through the manual was making me dread trying to set this seat up for my newborn. It’s great that one seat can be used from newborn to booster, but I don’t know why they had to make it so complicated. It has a no-retread harness for bigger kids...but for babies it’s a much more complicated process! You also have to remove the cupholders and lift the cover every time you go to install it. Most people have a hard enough time installing their seat, even people who *think* they’ve installed their seat correctly probably haven’t if they have not read the manual thoroughly and met with a CPST. Companies should be trying to make installs easier, not more complicated! I did try my 9 year old son in it to see how long it would last. He is 48” and about 50 lbs. He just barely fits in harness mode (the straps come from just above his shoulders on the highest setting) and sadly it looks like the high back booster mode would also be almost outgrown for him. So the high back booster mode is outgrown at about the same time as the harness.
