The North States 6-Panel Superyard Colorplay is a plastic play yard that creates a safe play area for babies and toddlers (ages 6–24 months) or pets, enclosing up to 18.5 sq. ft. at 26 inches tall. It features self-locking hinges for straight or angled setups, UV-resistant panels for indoor/outdoor use, and SuperGrip feet, though users report that assembly requires significant force to click panels together, the door latch is difficult to operate with one hand, and the non-slip pads may not prevent movement on smooth floors. The play yard is made in the USA and certified by the Baby Safety Alliance.

Parents find the North States Superyard Colorplay a valuable but imperfect solution for safely containing mobile babies, appreciating its large space and portability while struggling with setup, door latch complexity, and stability on non-carpeted floors.

mixed sentiment100% match

Sentiment leans mixed because while the product is recommended for its durability and size, numerous practical complaints about assembly, latch design, and floor grip reduce the overall positive sentiment.

Watch Out For

mediumPanel joints are very stiff and require significant force to click into place; may feel like you're breaking the plastic.
highNon-slip pads are insufficient on smooth floors; the yard can be shoved around by a determined baby.
mediumThe 'one-hand open' door latch is actually difficult to operate with one hand, contradicting the product claim.

Community Q&A

Is the North States Superyard easy to set up?
No, many users report that pushing panels until they click is difficult and requires significant force.
Can the Superyard be used on hardwood floors?
It includes non-slip pads, but users note that babies can still push or displace it on smooth surfaces; adding extra grip tape or connecting to a wall helps.
Is the door easy for adults to use?
The door latch is often described as difficult to operate with one hand; the 'easy' one-hand open claim is disputed.

Compared To

vs Regalo gate system

The Regalo was considered but rejected for blocking off a fireplace area; the North States Superyard was chosen for its wider containment area.

vs older North States Superyard model

Previous owner of an older model noted the new version has a more complex door latch, making it harder for adults to operate.

  • North States 6-panel playpen recommended for durability and portability despite assembly difficulty

We have the same one but a little bigger (got it used off FB marketplace). I’d recommend it. Folds up nice and small and is not too heavy. Setting up kinda sucks because you have to push the plastic panels forward to click them in place and it takes some muscle. It’ll feel like you’re going to break the plastic but you won’t. We used it camping and for the backyard. Also works for pets.

  • Superyard Colorplay Ultimate caught between usefulness and frustration with door latch and floor movement

We have the North States Superyard Colorplay Ultimate. I like the idea, but realistically it frustrates me. It’s huge, which is good unless you have to step over it. I still have to do more work to get it not to walk and tip on our hardwood floors. The little gripper feet are not enough for a baby leaning all her weight on it. The door latch is also not easy. I bought it because it's the 'easy' one-hand-open one. I can't really operate it with one hand. I had an older model years ago with a different latch that was easier. My parents can't operate the latch at all. I’m on the fence about returning. It is the best solution I have found for the space...
