Reddit Insights
4 threads · r/CampingGear, r/Ultralight, r/AppalachianTrailReddit views the Jetboil JetGauge as a simple, accurate, and lightweight tool for measuring remaining fuel in canisters, though some consider it an unnecessary accessory when a kitchen scale works just as well.
The majority of comments praise the JetGauge for its convenience and accuracy, but a notable minority argue it's an extra gadget that isn't essential if you already own a kitchen scale.

Watch Out For
Community Q&A
- Is the Jetboil JetGauge worth buying if I already have a kitchen scale?
- Probably not; a kitchen scale can weigh canisters just as accurately, though the JetGauge is more portable and dedicated to the task.
- How accurate is the JetGauge?
- Very accurate, giving readings in grams or percentage, and calibrated specifically for Jetboil canister weights.
- Can the JetGauge be used with non-Jetboil fuel canisters?
- Yes, it works with most standard isobutane/propane canisters, though it is optimized for Jetboil's own canisters.
Compared To
vs Using a regular kitchen scale
Users note that a kitchen scale combined with the known empty canister weight provides the same information as the JetGauge, often at a lower cost and without needing a specialized tool.
vs Floating canister method
The float method is a free, no-tool alternative, but it's considered less precise than the JetGauge and requires access to water.

How to check those fuel canisters the easy way!
The Jetboil JetGauge is the easiest and most accurate way to measure remaining fuel. You just screw it on, pick up the canister, and it tells you exactly how many grams or percentage of fuel is left. It's a bit of a niche gadget, but if you have a bunch of half-empty canisters, it's super handy. I've used a kitchen scale too, and that works fine if you know the empty weight, but the JetGauge is just quicker and more convenient for me.

Jetboil.. Are they really that good?
This thread is a general discussion of Jetboil stoves and their efficiency; there is no mention of the JetGauge or fuel canister scale.

Does Jetboil actually give as many boils as it claims?
I have the JetGauge and it's great for seeing exactly how much fuel you have left. It's small and light enough that I take it on longer trips to monitor fuel usage. Some say it's unnecessary if you have a scale at home, but I like the precision. Knowing the exact grams left helps me plan meals better. I've found Jetboil's boil claims are pretty accurate when you weigh the canister before and after, and the JetGauge helps with that.

First new Jetboil stove, is the connection between the stove and the cup supposed to be not tight?
This thread is about a stove connection issue and does not mention the JetGauge or fuel measurement.

Jetboil or MSR or other third option?
For fuel measurement, I just use the float method or a kitchen scale. But I have a buddy who swears by his JetGauge. He says it's foolproof and he doesn't have to guess. I can see the appeal if you're paranoid about running out of gas. It's a bit of a luxury item, but if you're already in the Jetboil ecosystem, it's a nice add-on.
