Great Product!

Anthony

My students benefit heavily from using these phoneme mirrors. The visual cues help build automaticity within the area of sound generation.

Great purchase.

Cara

I have been using this item so much with my artic kiddos, and they all LOVE it. It really draws their attention because they think it’s so neat. It’s actually been helping with progress. I did not give it 5 stars because the adjustable stand and lid never seem to get into the right position and so you have to still hold it in place with a hand.

Q

Multiple reviewers mention trouble getting the kickstand/lid to hold position—does the built-in kickstand and lid reliably hold the unit upright for independent child use?

PerformancehighProduct Data
A

We include a built‑in kickstand and comfortable side grips so this Mirror My Sounds Phoneme Set can stand upright, but some reviewers report the adjustable stand/lid doesn’t always lock securely — you may need to steady or hold it for independent child use. It works well for classroom or guided one‑on‑one practice, but very young children working alone may need an adult to position or hold the unit.

Q

What material is the mirror made from (acrylic/plastic/glass), and is it shatterproof/impact-resistant and rated safe for preschool use?

SafetyhighProduct Data
A

The mirror is plastic (the product’s materials are listed as “plastic and paper” and the product page describes the mirror/booklet in a plastic case). [1] The included Getting Started Guide lists the set for ages 3+ (PreK) and the product is described as child-friendly, but the manufacturer does not publish a specific “shatterproof” or impact-resistance rating or independent safety certification for the mirror, so we can’t state it’s certified shatterproof. [2]

Q

Are the picture pages/cards laminated or coated so they can be wiped with disinfectant, and which cleaning products (e.g., bleach wipes, alcohol) are safe to use on the case, pages, and mirror?

MaintenancehighWeb Search
A

The cards are paper (the set is listed as “plastic and paper” and the pages are fixed in the plastic case) and are not described as laminated or wipeable [1]. To avoid damage, do not saturate the paper pages with disinfectant or bleach — dust or spot-clean them with a dry or barely damp cloth and let them air dry; clean the plastic case and mirror using mild soap and water or an EPA‑registered disinfectant (or 70% isopropyl alcohol) applied to a cloth and wiped gently (don’t spray into the card edges), and avoid abrasive cleaners — follow product label/contact‑time instructions and test a small area first [2][3].

Q

Do the cards include phonetic notation (IPA) or explicit cues for voiced vs. voiceless sounds, and are the mouth/tongue placement diagrams aligned with common SLP phonetic conventions?

TechnicalmediumProduct Data
A

This is a picture‑based set with a booklet that shows correct mouth and tongue placement for each of the 44 phonemes and a built‑in mirror for self‑observation. The product information does not list IPA phonetic symbols or explicit voiced/voiceless labels on the cards; the placement diagrams were written by a reading specialist and use practical placement cues that many SLPs find useful, but we cannot guarantee they follow formal IPA transcription conventions.

Q

How large is the mirror surface (width × height) and are the cards sized so a child can clearly see mouth and tongue placement in the mirror while holding the card?

CompatibilitymediumWeb Search
A

We don’t publish the exact mirror surface (width × height); the product case measures 8.5 × 5.5 × 1.5 inches. The Mirror My Sounds cards and built‑in mirror are designed so a child can hold a card and watch mouth/tongue placement (cards include mouth/tongue photos and a positioning booklet for practice). [1] [2]

brand product page (specifications and product description) and retailer product description noting mouth/tongue photos and positioning guide.

Q

Does the included booklet provide step-by-step cueing, progressions, and ready-to-use activities suitable for one-on-one speech therapy (e.g., prompts, practice sequences, minimal-pair suggestions)?

Domain/Teaching MaterialshighWeb Search
A

The set includes an activity guide with step-by-step lessons (written by a reading specialist) plus a booklet that shows correct mouth and tongue placement, so it provides ready-to-use cueing and practice sequences appropriate for one-on-one speech therapy. The product materials do not specify explicit minimal-pair lists or formal cueing hierarchies, so we cannot confirm those are included. [1]

Brand product page — activity guide provides step-by-step lessons; booklet shows mouth/tongue positioning; no mention of minimal-pair lists.

Q

For each of the 44 phonemes, are multiple exemplar words provided (showing initial/medial/final positions) or is there only a single pictured example per phoneme?

PerformancemediumWeb Search
A

We show multiple exemplar photos on each phoneme card — each card includes the phoneme symbol plus exemplar pictures (not just a single pictured example). However, while the cards include multiple exemplar photos and mouth/tongue-position images, we cannot confirm they explicitly show initial/medial/final word positions for every phoneme.

hand2mind product page (product description/specs) and Walmart product images showing card layout and "exemplar photos" label.

Q

Although pages are fixed in the case, can individual pages be opened and remain flat on a chosen phoneme (without the lid/stand actively holding them), enabling hands-free display of a single phoneme?

UsabilityhighProduct Data
A

This set’s pages are fixed inside the durable plastic case and the built-in kickstand is intended to prop a chosen phoneme page open for hands‑free display; the pages are not removable. However, some users report the kickstand/ lid doesn’t always lock perfectly at every angle and may need to be steadied by hand for a fully flat, stable view.
