Mixed experiences with false alarms but overall peace of mind for some parents
We used one for our first baby until he was 18 months old. The first few weeks we had a few placement alarms because his foot was so tiny but after the first month we never had a false alarm again. It helped my anxiety tremendously... The 'false' alarms they talk about are placement or connection issues. Those are yellow or blue alerts... If there's something wrong with baby, it makes a horrible, terrifying alert sound, and the base station is red.
Life-saving potential balanced with high cost and false alarms
Our Owlet Smart Sock 3 sounded a red alert for low oxygen during a nap when he was just 5 days old... Our son was experiencing seizures that were the result of a perinatal ischemic stroke... Our son’s neurologist confirmed that were it not for the Owlet alerting us of this drop in his oxygen that he very well could have suffered further brain damage or worse.
Product saved baby's life, but some find it unnecessary
The new version only shows trends... it did not alert me to immediate changes in heart rate. Also, anytime I left the room with the baby, the hub would start dinging and wake everyone else up... I did not like it.
Positive for peace of mind, but camera unreliable
The only false alarms we've had are the yellow ones when the sock placement is off... I'm glad we have it, for that peace of mind. However, the camera is just awful. Terrible connection issues. I'm glad we bought a separate non-Wi-Fi camera.
Highly recommended for anxious first-time parents despite cost
I love the Owlet sock. It has given us so much peace of mind and honestly saved our baby's life a couple times with alarms going off. If we had not had the sock, our daughter might not be here today.
Confusion about versions; Smart Sock 3 preferred for red alerts
If the one I'm looking at is the Dream Sock, which does not have the red alert, only tracks trends... then it's a no for me. Several people recommended getting the Smart Sock 3 (the previous version) because it still has the audible alarm for low oxygen or heart rate.
