Gamakatsu hooks praised for thin wire and hookset in live bait harnesses
I love gammys spider hitch style live bait harnesses. Thin wire = better hookset (user: xtremejuuuuch). Owner and gami would be your premium 'sharp' brands.

BKK compared to Gamakatsu in sharpness and pricing for walleye jigs
BKK is solid. I use them as they match up well with Owner and Gamakatsu and are a little cheaper. Only in walleye jigs (user: Any-Rub-3211). The real difference you'll see with hook quality isn't hookup ratio, it's how many snags you can pull out of without the hook bending.

Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp or Gamakatsu for value and performance in various fishing
Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp. They're a great hook, just as good as Gamakatsu IMO and far cheaper. If I need light wire, Gamakatsu. But for jig, bait, and saltwater bridge rigs I use Eagle Claw almost exclusively (user: backpage_alumni). I have changed to using Owner hooks almost exclusively. Too many gami hooks bent out (user: jdub75). The real difference you'll see with hook quality isn't hookup ratio, it's how many snags you can pull out of without the hook bending (user: Any-Rub-3211).

Owner hooks preferred over Gamakatsu due to bending issues
I have changed to using Owner hooks almost exclusively. Too many gami hooks bent out. It seems to me like Gamakatsu's QC has gone down (user: jdub75). I noticed the same thing, now I use BKK and owner more now (user: TheShark12).

Gamakatsu G Finesse hook bend during bass fishing
T rigged a rage bug with 1/8oz weight on my baitcaster and the hook bent on the hook set and made the fish get unhooked (user: Responsible-Yard6352). That's weird I had a pack of Gammys break 3 hooks on me within 2 days while bass fishing the other day. One snapped during a hook set, and the other 2 fishing grass (user: The_Real_Egg).

Gamakatsu preferred for freshwater, VMC for saltwater
Gamakatsu all day for freshwater, VMC for saltwater. On a side note. I pretty much exclusively now use BKK for both now. They have never let me down (user: ianthomasmalone). Gamakatsu for all around. I use Owner for wacky rigs though (user: Aok_al).
