Travel experiences with 3-year-old
We used the RideSafer vest for our 3-year-old on a trip and it worked great for short cab rides. She's tall for her age so fit wasn't an issue. The only downside is she couldn't see out the window well and fell asleep once, which made me nervous about her slouching. I practiced at home first and it took a few tries to get the belt routing correct. Overall, a lifesaver for travel but I wouldn't use it daily.

Comparison to regular car seats for toddlers
I researched the Ride Safer vest a lot before buying. It's not as safe as a convertible car seat, but it's better than a backless booster for a toddler. The vest itself is well-made and the belt positioning is good when adjusted correctly. My 4-year-old doesn't mind wearing it. I'd only recommend it for travel and occasional use, not everyday.

Feedback on fit for smaller children
I wanted to love the RideSafer vest but my small 5-year-old was swimming in the size small. Even with the adjustments pulled tight, the shoulder belt guide didn't sit right and the lap belt rode up. Maybe the XS would have been better but it's pricey to experiment. For now we're sticking with our Cosco Scenera for travel.
