Excellent product. Has 2 locks...
Excellent product. Has 2 locks and works well. Used it for 1.5 years with no issues
I bought this a couple...
I bought this a couple months ago for the doorway of my front bathroom. Initially I didn't receive the installation hardware in the box. When I call the distributor, they were surprised, but gave me no grief, and before you know it, I had a hardware package in the mail from Northstates Industries. I installed it about 9" above the sill so my Chihuahua could pass in and out to get to her food and water, but my Pit Bull could not. I didn't need to put the latching component in for my purpose, so a...

Is this pressure-mounted gate rated or recommended for use at the top of a staircase, or only for bottom-of-stairs/doorway installations?
We do not recommend using this pressure‑mounted gate at the top of a staircase; unless a gate is specifically approved for top‑of‑stairs use, only hardware‑mounted gates permanently installed into a solid stud are considered safe for the top of a stairway. This gate is a no‑drill, pressure‑mount model intended for doorways, hallways and bottom‑of‑stairs use — choose a hardware‑mount installation for the top of stairs. [1][2]

What are the dimensions of the vinyl-coated mesh openings (gap size) and are those gaps small enough to prevent finger/toe entrapment or footholds for climbing?
We do not publish a specific measurement for the vinyl‑coated mesh opening (the product specs and instruction manual do not list a mesh aperture), so we can’t give an exact gap size. The gate is JPMA/ASTM‑certified, which means it has been tested to applicable safety standards for infant gates, and the manufacturer’s manual also warns to discontinue use if a child can climb over or dislodge the gate — so follow that guidance and supervise accordingly. If you need an exact hole/mesh measurement for a particular concern (finger size, medical reason, or climbing risk) we can try to obtain that measurement from the factory on request.

What is the gate's shipping/assembled weight (how heavy is the gate) and is it easy for one adult to move between openings?
The assembled/item weight is about 5.7 lbs (≈2.6 kg) per retailer product listings. Shipping weight will be slightly higher because of packaging, but this gate is designed to be lightweight and portable so one adult can easily remove and move it between openings using the pressure-mount design.

Are replacement parts (mounting hardware, wall cups, latch assembly, or vinyl mesh) sold separately and is there a parts list or part numbers?
Yes — replacement parts are sold separately through North States. We offer hardware packages, wall cups, upper latches and (for models that support them) replacement panels/parts such as the vinyl-coated mesh; part numbers and prices are listed on North States’ replacement-parts pages. Please have your gate’s model number/date code ready and use the product’s parts drop‑down or the brand parts catalog to find the correct part. [1][2][3]

Do user reports indicate the gate can be installed raised above the floor (for example ~9" above the sill) to allow very small pets through while still blocking toddlers and larger dogs, and did reviewers report that configuration remained secure over time?
Yes. One reviewer specifically reported installing this Toddleroo extra-wide wooden gate about 9" above the sill so a Chihuahua could pass while a Pit Bull could not, and noted it worked without the latching component; another reviewer said they used the gate for 1.5 years with no issues, indicating the raised configuration remained secure in customer experience.

How does the latch operate—is it one-handed for adults, child-resistant, and can medium/large dogs or determined toddlers manipulate it?
We use a lift-style locking bar — to lock you push the bar down and slide the locking pin into a slot, and to open you simply pull up on the locking bar (the manufacturer’s instructions show this exact operation). [1] When the gate is installed with the included wall cups and the locking bar is placed on the side away from the child, this gate is intended to be secure for toddlers; however, like all pressure-mounted gates a particularly determined toddler or a persistent medium/large dog may eventually learn to dislodge or manipulate it if installed improperly or left without the wall cups engaged. What is the typical clearance between the bottom of the gate and the floor when installed as recommended (clearance height), and does the gate present any trip hazard for adults or small items rolling under it?
When installed per the manufacturer instructions the Quick‑Fit/pressure‑mount gate is placed directly on the floor (i.e., essentially 0" intentional clearance under the bottom); the manual instructs “place gate on floor and expand in the opening.” [1] Because it sits flush, there’s only a very low threshold to step over (not a tall bar), so small rolling objects are unlikely to pass under and most adults step over rather than trip — however any floor‑level gate creates a small threshold you will lift your foot over when walking through. Merchant FAQs
- Do you make an adapter that will let me mount my hardware-mounted gate as a pressure-mounted gate so I do not have to drill holes in my wall?
- We do not manufacture an adapter to alter the way our hardware mounted gates install. All of our Hardware-Mounted Baby Gates must be attached directly to a solid surface such as a wooden stud. This will require drilling holes into the surface.
- Can I use wall anchors to install my gate into drywall?
- Our Hardware-Mounted Baby Gates should not be installed using anchors. Because drywall anchors have a maximum limit as to how much weight they can withstand, it cannot be guaranteed that the gate will not dislodge and pull from the wall when mounted with an anchor, which could lead to damage or injury. Hardware mounted gates require a solid surface, such as a wooden stud, to be properly installed.
- What is the space between the bars of my hardware-mounted baby gate?
- The distance between the bars on model 4630 is 2.75”.
