I use the Superyard Duo from North States for our extra wide opening. It can be mounted or free standing. On my second kid with it, although one of the panels started to crack at the hinge, we just got a replacement panel easily.

North States gates mentioned as economical and functional solution
We have an extra wide opening as well. North States gates have been our savior. We have two: one is the tall metal one, and the other is the plastic Superyard Duo that we use as a playpen/gate. They are way cheaper than other brands but work just fine. The hardware-mounted one was easy to install and hasn't budged with my rambunctious toddler.
