Community Q&A
- Does the Maxi-Cosi Romi fit in airplane seats?
- Yes, it's FAA-approved and narrow enough to fit in most economy seats without raising armrests.
- Is the Maxi-Cosi Romi easy to install?
- Generally yes, especially with the updated premium lower anchors; many find it quick with a seatbelt install too.
- Is the Maxi-Cosi Romi comfortable for long car rides?
- It's fine for occasional travel, but some parents find the padding thin and wouldn't use it as a primary seat for long daily drives.
Compared To
vs Cosco Scenera Next
The Romi is lighter (7-8 lbs vs. Scenera's weight) and easier to install, but the Scenera is cheaper and has thicker padding. Users prefer Romi for air travel due to width and premium lower anchors.
vs Nuna Rava
The Nuna Rava is heavier and wider, making it impractical for plane travel. The Romi is favored as a lightweight, FAA-approved travel alternative despite being less plush.

Travel seat recs focus on Romi as lightest FAA-approved option
the maxi cosi romi is FAA approved and super light (about 7 lbs). It fits in plane seats and is easy to install with the seatbelt. Much easier than the cosco scenera next in terms of install, and the premium lower anchors are a plus.

Small car/apartment user finds Romi perfect for travel and daily
I got the maxi cosi romi for travel but ended up using it as our daily seat because it's so light and easy to move between cars. The harness pull is a little stiff, but for the price and weight, it's unbeatable. No flame retardants is a bonus.

Comparison with other convertibles; Romi chosen for travel
After looking at the Graco Extend2Fit, Evenflo 360, and Cosco Scenera, I went with the Maxi Cosi Romi for our trip. It's cheap enough to not worry if it gets banged up gate-checking, and it's narrow so it fits in the plane. The fabric isn't luxurious but it's fine for occasional use.

Defense against mom-shaming for using a lightweight seat
Don't let anyone shame you. The Romi passes the same safety standards as heavier seats. I use it for travel and it's way better than lugging our Nuna Rava through the airport. It's installed correctly and my kid is comfortable enough for flights.
