Works perfect!
Deceptively amazing.
When I first bought it, I thought there was no way my massive sleeping bag could fit inside. I was wrong. Stuffs perfectly in and fast, too. Feels durable and I’ve had no complaints so far. It also compresses down smaller than other similar sacks I’ve tried. 10/10!
Great sack
I have several sizes of these and use them all. Highly recommend.

Durable and really compresses
This isn't my first Sea to Summit compression sack. They are durable and well-made and just don't seem to tear or fail. You can really pack a sleeping bag into it. And even though it's not water proof, it does seem to repel water.
Top notch product and customer service
I purchase one of these compression storage bags off a recommendation and was so impressed, I bought a set of three to give to a friend. Not only is the product excellent, both in design and construction quality, the customer service is well beyond expectations. Absolutely recommend Sea to Summit an...

Helpful for “Personal Item” Compression
Worked wonders for compressing my clothes in my “personal item” carry on. Fit everything I really needed for a 6 day lake stay (granted it’s summer clothes and bathing suits which take up less space). Looking forward to using it this winter when doing some hut trips, too. Would definitely recommend.
Perfect! It was exactly what
Perfect! It was exactly what I was looking for to get my 0* down quilt down to a packable size! Get's the job done and keeps the water out when inside my pack!
Great Sacks
Caught a sale and purchased 3 of the 30 litre compression sacks. Can pack a lot into them! I use them for our family's sleeping bags and can fit more.
Ordered a medium and large
Ordered a medium and large sack and love them. Super well made and designed.
20L & 30L Compression Sacks
These are great compression bags. Both of these bags replaced original compression bags which came with sleeping bags (synthetic). Much more compression and the bags are more durable.

Worked great after I lost
Worked great after I lost the original stuff sack for the sleeping bag, which wasn't a compression sack. Will be using regularly.

good product
The large model tames a huge down huge sleeping bag for back pack travel. It's a bit of a hassle fighting the air out of the sleeping bag; but it's amazing how this sack smooshes down something so large and full of air. Don't compress your down stuff inside this indefinitely--the down must air out a...
Toughness
You can tug on the straps and it shrinks right down
Sleeping bag storage and transportation
The compression sack is lightweight, durable, and simple to use. I bought a size medium for my 15 degree bag, and a size large for my -20 degree bag. Both are the perfect size.
To keep my sleeping bag dry and compressed when backpacking/traveling.
This is an outstanding and innovative product. I bought my first one the better part of a decade ago and have since bought more for all of my sleeping bags.
Not Super Light but Effective
This review is for the 14L, Medium compression sack. I decided to buy a compression sack after using one with a rented -15 degree Celsius bag, and being amazed at how much it shrunk that monster down. Weight: 5 oz compared to 1 oz for a typical sleeping bag stuff sack. I would have preferred not h...

Across the 61 reviews, what are the most common real-world items customers report stuffing into each size (e.g., sleeping bag, winter clothing, quilt) and which sizes are most often recommended for sleeping bags vs clothing?
Across reviews and community usage we see a pattern: the smallest sizes (5–8 L) are most often used for single insulated pieces and small kit — puffy jackets, hats, a small pillow or accessories; the mid 13 L size is the most frequently reported choice for an ultralight/summer sleeping bag or backpacking quilt (and 1–2 days of clothing); 20 L is commonly chosen for larger/colder-season sleeping bags or a sleeping bag plus extra clothes; 35 L is typically used to carry a tent canopy, multiple days of clothing, or to combine several bulky items. So, if you mainly want to compress a single sleeping bag or quilt pick 13 L; for just a puffy jacket or small clothes 5–8 L is usually enough; choose 20 L+ for bulkier bags or multi-item packing. For a standard mummy down sleeping bag (men's 20°F / -6°C and women's 30°F / -1°C), which Sea to Summit Lightweight Compression Sack sizes do you recommend so the bag compresses well but doesn't overstress the straps?
We recommend the 13 L Lightweight Compression Sack for most men’s 20°F (-6°C) mummy down bags and the 8 L for typical women’s 30°F (-1°C) mummy down bags — the 13 L (≈8.1" x 17") and 8 L (≈7.1" x 14") sizes compress well without overstressing the four-strap system. If your bag is especially lofty, has a lot of down, or is synthetic, pick the next size up (20 L) so you don’t have to over-compress the straps. These recommendations follow the sack’s published size specs and common industry guidance on compressed sleeping-bag volumes. [1][2][3]

Does Sea to Summit provide guidance on how tightly to cinch the four-strap system (or a recommended max compression) for down sleeping bags to avoid loss of loft if stored long-term?
We don’t recommend storing down bags long-term compressed in this compression sack — Sea to Summit explicitly warns that compression sacks aren’t for long‑term storage because prolonged compression can damage down loft. [1] They don’t publish a numeric “max” compression; for packing they advise only mild compression (e.g., press the bag until the top surface is roughly level) and for long‑term storage keep sleeping bags dry and uncompressed in a storage/lofting bag. How are the strap attachment points and the base handle constructed—are they bar-tacked/reinforced—and is there a published load rating or observed failure mode for heavy use?
We use a sturdy nylon webbing handle on the round base and a four‑strap compression system; Sea to Summit’s product page shows the webbing base handle and the straps but does not specify stitching method or publish a load rating. Sea to Summit’s sales/catalog materials for their stuff‑sack/compression‑sack line state that stress points are bar‑tack (reinforcement) stitched, so the strap attachment points and base handle are typically reinforced — however there’s no numeric load rating or formal failure‑mode data published for this Lightweight Compression Sack, and customer reviews show no widespread reports of strap/handle failure. The listing notes a PU-coated interior (2,000 mm HH), PFC-free DWR, un-taped seams and a drawstring top—in practical terms, will the sack keep a sleeping bag/clothes dry inside a tent during a heavy rain or only protect against light splashes?
This sack is water-resistant — the PU-coated interior (2,000 mm HH) and DWR will protect gear from light moisture and splashes, but it is not waterproof. Because the seams aren’t tape-sealed and the top is a drawstring (not a roll-top), it will not reliably keep a sleeping bag or clothes dry during heavy or prolonged rain if water gets into the tent. For heavy-rain conditions we recommend using this as a pack-organization/compression layer and adding a waterproof stuff sack or dry bag as an inner liner for true waterproof protection.

What are the recommended cleaning and care instructions (washing method, drying, reproofing DWR) for the Lightweight Compression Sack to preserve the PU coating and PFC-free DWR?
We recommend washing this sack by hand in warm water with a non‑detergent soap (we suggest Sea to Summit Wilderness Wash), avoiding regular detergents and solvents that can damage coatings. Rinse well and air‑dry completely out of direct sun — do not use high heat in a tumble dryer to protect the PU interior and seams. To refresh the exterior PFC‑free DWR, use a technical, PFC‑free reproof product (spray‑on or wash‑in) made for outdoor fabrics (examples: Nikwax TX.Direct spray or Grangers Performance Repel), apply to the outside only per the product instructions, spot‑test first, and follow the reproofer’s activation steps if it recommends low heat; avoid solvent‑based treatments that can delaminate PU. What percentage of the 70D nylon is recycled, and where is this product manufactured?
We don’t have an exact percentage — Sea to Summit describes the shell as “bluesign® approved recycled 70D Nylon” but does not publish the percent recycled on the product page. The product page also does not list a country of manufacture for this Lightweight Compression Sack; industry sources note Sea to Summit gear is commonly produced in Asia (China, Vietnam, Taiwan), but we can’t confirm the specific factory country for this item.

Can the compression straps be used to secure the sack externally to a pack (as a lash point), and are there any fit/clearance considerations when mounting a filled/partially compressed sack to an external daisy/side-strap?
We recommend you can lash this sack to the outside of a pack for light-to-moderate loads — the four-strap compression system and the sturdy nylon webbing handle let you secure and cinch the sack to side straps or daisy-chain points, but the straps are not reinforced, dedicated lash hardware so they shouldn’t be relied on for heavy or highly dynamic loads. Check the sack’s nominal size when planning clearance: 5L ≈ 6"×11.7", 8L ≈ 7.1"×14", 13L ≈ 8.1"×17", 20L ≈ 9.4"×18.7", 35L ≈ 11.3"×22.8" (weights 2.4–5.9 oz depending on size); the height shortens when you compress it, but the compressed diameter still needs to fit between your pack’s straps/daisy-chain and clear the hipbelt/shoulder area. Also note this sack is water‑resistant (not fully waterproof), so mounting it externally may expose contents to light moisture or spray.

Merchant FAQs
- Is this compression sack a good tent storage bag?
- Perhaps. Carrying the tent canopy in your pack (with the poles under the compression straps) is a great idea. However - the canopy may not compress that much.
- Is this compression sack waterproof?
- No, this compression sack is only water resistant. The seams are not tape-sealed and the top does not have a roll-top closure, so it's possible for water to get inside.
- Is this compression sack worth the weight and cost?
- Once you have experienced modular packing with ultralight compression sack you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.
