Overall the gate is decent for the price. It was the cheapest one I could find. I bought two: one for the bottom of the stairs and one for the top. They are very sturdy! The one, somewhat significant problem I have with them is the gate door is VERY narrow. The locking mechanism makes it almost impossible to function one handed with a baby in the others. Either you must leave it unlocked or have the gate open before you start carrying the baby through. Pain when your trying to put a sleeping baby to bed! Also if you put it on a stair like I had to, the bottom of the gate has a high lip which makes it nearly impossible to step on that stair as it takes up so much room.

Recommendation for Regalo gate but complaint about latch mechanism
I have the Regalo Easy Step and while it's sturdy and affordable, the latch is a pain to open one-handed, especially when carrying a toddler. I often have to use two hands which defeats the purpose. Also, the door is quite narrow so navigating through with a baby is tight. Considering a North States gate instead since it's easier to operate.
