  • Warning about Owlet baby monitor hacking

I just want to warn everyone. We are dealing with the aftermath of our Owlet being hacked. Please stop using this monitor. We changed our password regularly and it still happened. I woke up to a man talking to my baby through the camera. We have unplugged it and will never use it again. We contacted Owlet customer support and they were basically like 'sorry change your password' — worst night of my life.

  • Comparison between Owlet Cam 2 and Nanit Pro

We have the Owlet Cam 2 and the picture quality is good, but the app can be glitchy. I’ve heard Nanit is a lot more polished and the breathing wear is great, but it's expensive and you need a subscription. For a more budget-friendly secure monitor I’ve been looking at Bebcare or Infant Optics. Honestly if I could go back I might have just skipped the Wi-Fi altogether.

  • PSA: Owlet camera hacked again

This is a PSA to anyone using the Owlet camera - ours was hacked last night. A man’s voice came through the speaker while my daughter was sleeping. We have a very strong, unique password and our network is secure. After looking online this seems to be a known issue. We’re getting rid of it and switching to a non-Wi-Fi monitor. Please be careful.

  • Is the Owlet baby monitor worth the money?

I was gifted the Owlet monitor and honestly it’s given me so much peace of mind. The sock is the main draw for me, the camera is just a bonus. I know people worry about hacking but I use a VPN on my router and have a crazy password. I think it’s worth it if you’re an anxious person like me, but I understand why others avoid it.

  • Non-Wi-Fi monitor recommendation after Owlet hack stories

After reading all these Owlet hacking stories I’m only considering non-Wi-Fi monitors. I’m looking at Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro, Eufy SpaceView, or Bebcare. The Owlet cam seems way too risky, I don't care about watching my baby on my phone if it means some stranger could too.

  • First-hand Owlet monitor hacking incident

Our Owlet monitor was just hacked. I heard a man's voice say ‘hey baby’ through the camera speaker at 3am. I immediately unplugged it. We’ve used it for 8 months with no issues. Our Wi-Fi password is over 15 characters, random. I feel violated. Going to use an old school audio monitor from now on.
