Kidco Gateway recommended as sturdy pressure-mounted gate
I loved my Kidco gates: Safeway (wall-mounted for top of stairs) and Gateway for the bottom (pressure mounted with a swinging gate you can open one-handed). Pricey but you might try to buy used off Craigslist.

KidCo considered pricey but worth it for safety
Kidco is expensive but if you want absolute safety do a wall mounted gate. We used a KidCo Safeway at the top of the stairs. Pressure mounted gates are not safe for the top of stairs.

Gateway pressure mount praised for keeping husky contained
We have this gate https://kidsy.co/products/new-kidco-gateway-baby-pressure-gate-37w-x-37h-white and it works great. Our dog is a husky and it’s kept him from getting through. I like it because it’s pressure mounted so no drilling required, it opens one-handed, and it’s tall.

KidCo recommended for stairs due to sturdiness and install flexibility
I just installed a KidCo Safeway gate at the top of my stairs, and it's super solid. But I believe KidCo also makes a pressure-mounted version that's good for bottom of stairs or doorways. Anything that screws into the wall is going to be the safest.

Pressure mounted gates useful for rental without damage but can mark walls
We use pressure-mounted gates because we rent and can't drill into the walls. They work fine but you have to be careful about the pressure marks they can leave on drywall. We put felt pads behind the cups.
