The Ride Safer Travel Vest Gen 5 (X‑Small) is a vest-style child restraint that repositions a vehicle seat belt to provide a safer belt fit for small children; it is FMVSS 213 certified and intended for use in cars, rideshares, taxis and rental vehicles (recommended for ages 3+ and approximately 30–60 lb). The vest is constructed from padded foam-filled panels covered in black woven fabric with adjustable nylon webbing and a central metal/plastic buckle, and installs using the vehicle lap belt with tether or a lap-and-shoulder belt; it is lightweight and portable but provides less built-in side-impact protection than a full car seat and is not approved for airplane use. This listing is for a gently used item and may be missing the accessory bag, carrying bag, crotch strap, and instruction manual.

  • User highlights convenience and need to carry proof of legality

We have it and love it for its convenience when traveling. Kiddo loves it too, which is a bonus. Some cab drivers are not aware and will act concerned. We carry a printout of it meeting the legal requirements for the state/country we’re traveling in.

  • User finds vest amazing for travel, wishes known earlier

We just used this in combo with the Bubble Bum for a 9 day trip to the USVI and it was amazing. Not having to lug the heavy seat or depend on janky rentals? PRICELESS. I only wish I’d known about it with my older two.

  • Defends vest's safety citing crash tests and US requirements

It is for a 3yo, he’d wear the small size. It seems crazy but it’s been [crash tested](https://shop.saferide4kids.com/products/ridesafer-travel-vest#crashtest) and exceeds the requirements in the US.

  • Asserts the vest is safe and comfortable with proper adjustment

It is safe.  It passes all the regulations required for car seats. It is not for plane rides. It is comfortable, but you have to get it fitted and adjusted before you plan to use it.

  • Corrects misinformation about vest's certification

Replying a year later to this because you are incorrect. The RideSafer vest is certified to the same standards as booster/car seats (FMVSS 213). I would be pissed if my Uber driver denied us a ride because they couldn't take 2 seconds to verify that themselves.
