Reddit users overwhelmingly find the Owlet Dream Duo provides valuable peace of mind and improves sleep for anxious parents, despite some complaints about false alarms and setup difficulties.

positive sentiment100% match

The majority of users report reduced anxiety and better sleep, with many strongly recommending it. Negative feedback mainly revolves around false alarms, connectivity issues, and price, but overall sentiment is positive as the benefits outweigh the drawbacks for most.

Use Cases

  • Monitoring vital signs (heart rate, oxygen) for high-risk infants or anxious parents
  • Tracking sleep patterns and duration
  • Cry detection and real-time video monitoring via smartphone

Watch Out For

mediumFalse alarms due to sock displacement are common, especially if the sock is not properly fitted or baby moves a lot. Footed pajamas help secure the sock.
highBase station alerts may not be loud enough for deep sleepers (max 55 dBa). Relying on phone notifications can be risky if you're a heavy sleeper.
lowWiFi setup can be finicky and the camera stream may occasionally lag or disconnect.

Community Q&A

Is the Owlet Dream Duo worth the high price?
For most parents, yes—the peace of mind and sleep improvement justify the cost, especially for anxious first-time parents or those with high-risk infants.
Does the Owlet cause more anxiety due to false alarms?
Some users experienced increased anxiety initially, but most adapt and find the alerts reassuring once they learn to minimize false alarms (proper sock fit, footed pajamas).
How does Owlet compare to Nanit?
Owlet is better for vitals monitoring (heart rate, oxygen), while Nanit excels at video/camera insights and breathing bands. Owlet has fewer reported connectivity issues in recent models.

Compared To

vs Nanit

Nanit is praised for breathing band monitoring and camera insights, but Owlet is preferred for vital sign tracking (heart rate, oxygen) and less false alarms with newer models. Some users switched from Nanit to Owlet due to connectivity issues.

vs Eufy Smart Sock

Eufy is seen as a cheaper alternative with similar functionality, but Owlet has better brand trust and app experience. A user reported Eufy accurately detected a heart rate drop.

  • Owlet Dream Sock worth it?

I got the owlet sock. It works with other baby monitors too. So if you have another monitor you may not need to spring for the whole dream duo and could get away with just the sock. I have heard a lot of people say having the owlet helped their anxiety. So if it provides you some relief it’s probably worth it! ... I have owlet, it gave me peace of mind. But it is expensive. While shopping for my second baby I came across the following. It is $99 on amazon and people are swearing by it. ParentsLevana Oma Sense ... I will say I had to buy 2 gen 2s and they both stopped working by her 1st bday however I'm hoping gen 3 is better bc I know I won't be able to take my eyes off baby without it. ... We used the eufy smart sock s340 ... It gave me such peace of mind.

  • Owlet worth the money?

The Owlet is the only reason I get any sleep at night with a new baby! I’ve had one false alarm after two kids and it turned out to be that the sock wasn’t on well. ... I think it may cause you more anxiety than good ... I mean you don’t need one. Your baby is in the snoo so no fear of rolling over. ... At night I’m asleep so the owlet gives me peace to sleep. ... I love it! 10 weeks now and have only had two of the red alerts, which wasn’t a big deal because you just wake up and if your baby seems fine then you’re all good. ... Also what REALLY helped us was him wearing jammies with the feet on it so that way as he is moving in his sleep, the owlet sock is not moving too much and leading to the alarm going off from getting displaced.

  • Owlet Dream Duo smart baby monitor review

We like that this monitor does everything with sleep, movement, vitals, sound, and video. It is easy to setup and easy to use with an intuitive app we think most folks will feel comfortable navigating. The base stations provides three different kinds of prompts and your smartphone will get push notifications of various types. While we wish the prompt alerts from the base station were louder, we think this device is one that can offer peace of mind for parents ... The prompts are not loud enough, in our opinion, and the volume isn't adjustable ... the base station's highest volume is 55 dBa ... It feels like a huge misstep to create a vitals alert monitor that lacks the ability to adjust the volume.

  • Is the Owlet sock useful?

Loved the owlet! I will use it again. I had the first generation when my 9 year old was a baby and it saved his life when he went into SVT and had a heart rate of 300. We wouldn’t have known he had a heart arrhythmia without it! ... I had the owlet. It didn’t work on my daughter until she was like 3ish months old. We might’ve needed a smaller sock size ... I have the Nanit, and I loved it at first. After 10 months, the insights are always messed up, and it has started to disconnect a lot ... I had a nanit camera and it was awful. would never work. so I returned it. I had the owlet sock and loved it.

  • Owlet worth it? AskParents

All 10 of the Bounty Parents who trialled the Owlet Monitor Duo 2 found that the camera had superb video quality ... The Owlet Monitor Duo 2 is a great product to have for peace of mind! As first-time parents we love how it tracks our son’s sleep patterns, heart rate and oxygen level all while streaming video ... It gives us better sleep knowing that our baby’s vitals are being monitored and stops me from getting up and checking up on him constantly! ... The streaming is a little bit laggy and the wifi setup took a lot of work but other than that great product overall.
