New Ride Safer Travel Vest Gen 5 (X-Small, Black)
The Ride Safer Travel Vest Gen 5 (X-Small) is a portable child restraint system that uses the vehicle's seat belt to secure children weighing 30-60 lbs (approx. ages 3+). It is FMVSS 213 certified and legal in all US states, but note that it does not provide side-impact protection and is not approved for use on aircraft. Designed for travel and rideshare convenience, it is lightweight and compact, though achieving a proper fit may require careful adjustment.

Watch Out For
Community Q&A
- Is the RideSafer vest safe for a 3-year-old?
- It is legally approved down to 30lbs, but many car seat techs and parents recommend waiting until the child is older (around 5-6) and mature enough to sit properly.
- Can it be used on an airplane?
- No, the vest is not FAA approved for aircraft; use a CARES harness or an approved car seat on the plane.
- Is it legal to use in other countries?
- Laws vary; it is not legal in Australia, Canada (without prescription), and has unclear status in the UK/EU. Always check local regulations.
- Does it offer side impact protection?
- No, it lacks side impact protection; placing the child in the middle seat can mitigate this.
- How does it compare to a traditional car seat?
- It's much more portable but less protective, especially in side impacts, and requires careful adjustment.
Compared To

Used in combination for older kids; BubbleBum is a backless booster, while RideSafer provides more restraint.
vs CARES harness
CARES is used on planes, RideSafer on the ground; complementary travel system.
vs Cosco Scenera
Cosco Scenera is a lightweight traditional car seat some parents prefer for travel instead of the vest.

CPST details safety, usage, and limitations
CPST here, a Ride Safer Travel Vest (RSTV) is equally safe when used correctly. They pass the same safety tests. ... They’re not as easy to adjust as traditional harnessed seats, there is a learning curve. ... it is possible to wiggle out of position. ... The RSTV can’t be used on an airplane.

User shares travel system combining CARES harness and RideSafer vest
We have developed an awesome and convenient travel system with this. We use the CARES harness on the plane (FAA approved) and the Ride Safer vest in Ubers while traveling. ... It's super easy to carry around with you. But it isn't as comfortable as a traditional carseat.

User praises vest for trip and avoiding rental car seats
We just used this in combo with the Bubble Bum for a 9 day trip to the USVI and it was amazing. Not having to lug the heavy seat or depend on janky rentals? PRICELESS. I only wish I’d known about it with my older two.

Car seat tech advises against using the vest for a 3-year-old
I’m a car seat tech. How big is your 3 year old? ... I have a 3 year old and I would never put him in this. Personally, I will be using traditional seats until they’re ready for a booster. I’ve worked numerous vehicle wrecks with children/car seats as a firefighter as well, so I’m a lot more cautious than the average person.

User highlights lack of impact protection and fit concerns
It doesn’t offer any impact protection, which would be a concern for me, and if your child isn’t large enough to sit correctly in the seat I fail to see how this would be wise (boosters and car seat fit is not just about the straps, it’s also about making sure that the child is against the seat and the seat meets the leg correctly).
