I've had the Regalo for a couple years. It's... ok. The lock is a pain in the ass. My wife can't open it with one hand. And after a while the mesh starts to sag and the gate gets harder to latch because the hooks don't line up perfectly anymore.

Mixed experiences with Regalo retractable gate for pets
We use the Regalo gate for our dogs and it works well enough. The retractable aspect is great for keeping it out of the way. My only gripe is the locking mechanism feels cheap and I'm always worried it'll break. Our cat can squeeze under if she really tries, but it stops the dogs.

I had the Regalo retractable gate. It's great because it doesn't take up any space when not in use, which was key in our narrow hallway. But it's definitely not as sturdy as a solid gate. If your kid likes to lean on it, I'd go with something like the Summer Infant pressure mount instead.
